On Wednesday we heard from Ellie Hoju, a food, beauty and travel influencer on Instagram. A web search described her as an Influencer, Content Creator and Digital Marketer. Ellie was full of information on how she works, how she earns a living from what she does, and generally brought us up to speed about the possibilities in the world of social media, a world about which many of us are either ignorant or just touch upon.
We were also happy to host visitors from Streetwork (Helen Banu and Sarah Browett), KYDS (Justin Clarke) and Jim Jam Music (Kylie Clift), all of whom were recipients of funds raised through the Wine, Women & Song event run by Sallianne. The Youth Avenue of Service also shared in the spoils.
Each of the representatives gave a short presentation of their work and how they intend to use the funds raised. It was a lovely opportunity to put faces to the organisations that benefit from our efforts.
This coming week Nazrin Azzizi will talk to us about her work with Afghani refugees. Don’t forget to register for this meeting.
If you know of anyone who deserves recognition as an Inspirational Woman and you would like to nominate them, go to https://rotarydistrict9675.org/ . Nominations close 14 June. There are four categories: Urban over 30; Rural over 30; Young Inspirational women under 30; and Healthcare worker. This is a great Rotary program offered by the two Sydney Districts.
The Board will meet on Tuesday 11 June, 6.30pm at the PCYC. This will be a joint meeting and the last one for this Rotary year.
The annual Ku-ring-gai Chase Fun Run is to be held on the 16th June - at the Claude Cameron Oval East Wahroonga. In past years we have conducted the BBQ for the competitors and visitors. The students from Knox Grammar School also take part to act as mentors for the disabled competitors.
For members who are unable to attend, there is an opportunity to participate by donating Cakes/Biscuits/etc to a fundraising Cake stall operating at the event.
Your contributions should be delivered to me before the day ( our meeting this week) or dropped off at the event.
John Julius joined Wahroonga Rotary over 36 years ago! and he and wife Marie have been involved ever since.
He enjoys the people he’s met and the social contact it bought. Each week John comes along to the meeting and sets up the room and much of what’s required for the meeting, including member badges.
Before joining Rotary, John spent 10 years as an engineer at sea with various companies, rising to chief engineer. Following that he joined Lloyds Register of Shipping (founded in 1760) as a ship and engineer surveyor and served the organisation for 32 years, 18 of which were spent overseas (2 years in Bangladesh, 5 years in Hong Kong, 6 years in Bangkok and 5 years in Aberdeen, Scotland).
Thank you John for your contribution to Rotary, without which the club could not operate as efficiently. From your Club President Mentie Knowles and all the members.
Our Club Runner platform is in the process of a 'makeover" - a new version - "Nova" will be fully launched in 2025. This version will greatly enhance the system as a Club management tool with a lot of useful features; and will embrace other local Club information useful in the future for Zone 8 activity.
Much of this is explained in the recent webinar accessible via this link: NOVA
In particular I would like to draw your attention to the CR App which you can have on your mobile device and use to check on club stories and events and communicate with your fellow members by calling or text. I encourage you to download the APP as it will become more of an option for Club communications into the future.
You can download this Application and use your CR login to gain access to the material: - Club Runner APP - go to the APP store to download.
