President's Message
Thanks firstly to Len Stanley and Simran Talwar for setting up the two presentations last week and running our online meeting. Good Job! Great to see Ken Greatbatch in the UK singing the Aussie National Anthem.
It was very lovely to have so many guests at our meeting. Michelle Lorschy presenting beautiful photos of the School of St. Jude’s students and their parents. Wonderful to hear about your time there. Thank you, Michelle.
Leisa Liddelow from the Dish and Myf Webster from Fusion – it was a pleasure to meet you both in person and congratulations again on the well-deserved Community Caring Awards. We look forward to having you come back and tell us more. It is great that we have such a good community connection and that some of our members are working with you regularly - Greg Starr and John Cameron (with the Dish). Also, we can’t forget the connection between Hornsby Connect and your clients and those wonderful folks there - PP Stuart Armstrong and soon to be Club Secretary Ross Catterall.

I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the Wine Tasting Fundraising evening at The Baytree in Greenwich and I thank Keith Samson for offering to host the event. Thanks also to Peter Smith for organising the event with Keith. This event will be raising funds for the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter on 9th June.
You can still get tickets for the Bobbo Cocktail event on 16th June and Rochelle has organised individual gourmet food boxes (COVID safe). DGN Lindsay May and his wife Tania will be attending on the evening. Bookings close on 9th June.
It’s appropriate that we are having many social and fundraising events during the month of June as June is Fellowship month in Rotary! Which is why it is great to celebrate our Changeover in this month on 30th June 2021. And there are still a few places left for the District Changeover, which is a lunch at Castle Hill on 4th July. You can find the booking details further on in the bulletin.
June also marks Refugee Week. Sunday 20th June is World Refugee Day. Spare a thought for those people who have been displaced through war or politics through no fault of their own. On 15th June I’ll be meeting up with the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Multicultural Network, at the Gordon Baptist Church, to hear Refugees speak and share food to mark this day.
June Solstice is Monday 21st June! After that the days get longer and warmer little by little.
Keep warm!
An Indian Appeal Update
Since our Appeal has been launched just over a week ago we have secured in excess of $6500 in generous donations from Club members and the Community.
A wonderful effort and Treasurer John Cameron has lodged an application for a District Matching Grant - yet to be approved.
Our sincere thanks to the team that undertook last Saturday's street appeal at  the Eastern Rd Shops in Turramurra. (The Wahroonga appeal location was not held due to the bridge closure.) They raised in excess of $2000.
We have received a status update from our partner Rotary Club of Mysore in India recently and you can read their summary. Click  - here.
So lets keep up the donation requests and share the story with friends and colleagues by Facebook and email.

Reflections on our Hybrid meeting #25
This was a busy meeting where we focused on the great work being done by others in our community and in the world. Richard Pitt brought new members up to date with the orphanage that he and his wife have supported since the devastating tsunami of 2004 in Sri Lanka and which was rebuilt through his leadership and the efforts of our Club and other Rotary clubs and organisations that came on board. To view Richard's presentation

Then we presented Community Caring Awards to two valiant local organisations and their leading spirits - Leisa Liddelow from The Dish and Myf Webster from Fusion, Sydney North. Together they make available hot meals most nights for about 40 hungry and homeless of the Hornsby area as well as groceries and other kinds of life support to those in need.
                                                                                                                                                                                Michelle and Janelle
We were also fortunate to have Michelle Lorschy (daughter of Peter Lorschy) join us to provide an update on the wonderful work undertaken by Gemma Sisia at the School of St Jude - click on "Read More" to read on.

Presentation at St Edmund's College Assembly
Last Friday morning President Janelle and President-Elect Peter made joint presentations at St Edmund’s College’s fortnightly Assembly. One was a Community Caring Award to the staff of the school for the valiant way that they coped during the COVID-19 shut down last year and the other was a long-delayed Community Service Award to Terry O’Keefe who has been a leader at the school for 33 years and is their ‘Mr Chips’ (for those old enough to remember the 1939 film Goodbye Mr Chips).

From our UK Correspondents #15
We are now at the beginning of June and we have just had a bank holiday weekend and are in half-term week for the schoolchildren. This has resulted in long traffic jams on the Friday night before the long weekend as people take to the roads again.
We have reached Stage 3 of lockdown easing and now you can eat indoors at restaurants and pubs in groups of up to 6 with table service. Cinemas, museums, hotels, theatres and gyms have also opened. At last! Those suppers in chilly pub gardens huddling under a blanket are a thing of the past - we hope.
The new crocheted item on a bollard  at the end of our High Street inspired me to set forth.
