                                     President's Message
It was truly a pleasure to welcome back Steve McGregor, a man of many talents. Thank you, Steve, for taking the time to share your wonderful illustrations, stories and books with members today. You are an inspiration. The books can be purchased through our Club and will be featured in The Wahroongler over the next few months. Art is something we can all appreciate.

Congratulations to Rotary International’s newest member Nermine Toma who was inducted at last week’s meeting (classification Pharmacy Owner). Mark Toma and Maria Toma, son and daughter of Nermine, joined the celebrations. Thank you both for coming along.  Unfortunately, Nermine’s husband Morris was unable to be with us as he was needed to attend their Pharmacy in Shalvey. The Youth Committee has a fine new member on their team.

Other guests included past member Margaret Small, Maqsood, Simran and Sabarish. Next week Simran and Sabarish will be inducted as new members. Thanks to Sabarish for taking the lead on Simon’s role with the set up for the technical side for our Hybrid meeting. Job well done!

Kerri’s husband, Lars Bryndum, who is always welcome at our Club, arrived with a big smile and a tray of chocolate Easter Bunnies. Anyone who didn’t come to the meeting today missed this treat! Thank you Lars and we wish you the very best. Also, congratulations to you and Kerri-Lea on the birth of a beautiful new granddaughter Zoe-Lea, a sister for Isabelle.

Most of our Bobbo Team were having the week off and a well-deserved break after much hard work. It was great to hear feedback from one of the riders of how positive an experience the Bobbo was for the riders. Please remember we need feedback also from all our volunteers about the organisation of the Bobbin Head Cycle Classic day. Send your feedback directly to the Bobbo Executive team as per the email instructions you received from me on Monday March 23.

Peter and I joined with Nermine, Jim Fulton, Phillip and Shirley to visit with the Rotary Club of St Ives dinner meeting last week to hear DGE Lindsay May talk on his Sydney to Hobart adventures. Thank you to President Lyndall Pearson and her team for the invitation - and the opportunity to put a plug in for our 'Book Launch' event.

Coming up on the afternoon of Sunday April 11 is the Rotaractors’ Barefoot Bowls event - talk to Ross Caterall for bookings and on Saturday May 1, Jo-Ann’s Fundraiser Book Launch, house tour, tea and more! Look for more information in this bulletin and on the website.

See you all for our next meeting with National Youth Science Forum students Xavier and James from Knox Grammar with Sue Owen and two new member inductions.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter, travel safely and keep well.

Reflections on our Hybrid meeting #16
Highlights during the meeting included the induction of Nermine Toma accompanied by her two adult children, and Jo-Ann's lovely presentation of a gramophone accompaniment to promote the upcoming Book Launch fundraiser at her home on the 1st May 2021. (see more below)

Before the meeting got underway, however, we were all treated to Lars generosity  in thanks for the Club's recent support  to his family. Easter bunnys galore thanks you Lars we thoroughly enjoyed them.

Our guest speaker today was long-time member of the Club, Steve McGregor, a man of generous spirit and endless creativity. It was Steve’s first visit to the Club in a year and he was welcomed back with a standing ovation.
He was here to tell us about his life as a writer and illustrator of over sixty books but like all our members, there are other sides to Steve that he didn’t talk about, such as his career as a financial adviser, his experience as the father of a daughter with different abilities and his contribution to the welfare of Club members. Steve has a big heart and we heard how he helped his daughter write and publish her own book with his illustrations and how he produced five illustrations for Ian Cameron’s granddaughter Lilli to encourage her in her writing endeavours.

A Book Launch - Fundraiser
As referred to by Jo-Ann at the meeting last week - there will be a Book Launch at Jo-Ann's home on the 1st May 2021 to promote and generate sales of this wonderful book.

Mary-Anne O'Connor is a bestselling Australian author who grew up in the Bushland Shires of Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai. Mary-Anne and Harper Collins will donate $15 back to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter (HKWS) from each copy purchased.

By buying the book Sisters of Freedom you help to raise funds that go directly to HKWS helping women in need in our community.

Watch the video at the link below to hear about the relationship between the HKWS and the book in a message from the author herself.

Further details on booking for this event and book sales will be available later this week.

Wine Tasting Fundraiser
I hope everyone has heard about the Club’s upcoming fundraising event on June 9th when we are holding a special wine tasting fundraising evening.

It will be a Club transfer meeting, starting at 6 pm, to be held at the BayTree Lifestyle Resort at Greenwich.  Included - here - is a flyer which provides you with plenty of information about the event.

Now for the important bit. There will be 80 places available shared by Club members, friends and some residents of the BayTree. So early booking is crucial.
To do this please transfer your donation of $50 per head (tax deductible) together with your $60 per head for dinner to our Club’s Project account, MARKING IT WITH YOUR NAME AND THE LETTERS WT. The account number is BSB:032-189 A/C:790275.

Your donation will be transferred into our Wahroonga Foundation, a tax deductible receipt prepared and the total sum raised transferred to the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter.

Please call me if you have any questions

From our UK Correspondents #5
Exciting times in England; from this week we are allowed to meet one other household outside, or follow the rule of six. Even more exciting for Rotarians is the news that golf courses are open again. But all eyes are on 12th April when we can get our hair cut.  Sheared of our lockdown locks, blinking in the unaccustomed sunlight, we will cautiously emerge into the world outside our homes. In case we have forgotten where we are after so long, the government has helpfully decreed that all public buildings should fly the Union Flag at all times to remind us.
This week the government reinforced the UK’s close links with Pacific Rim countries by adopting North Korea’s policy on nuclear non-proliferation and China’s policy on dealing with peaceful protests.  A Bill going through parliament allows jail sentences of up to 10 years for protesters who are ‘seriously annoying’.  Can’t wait for a similar sanction on Rotarians who don’t mute on Zoom!

Meanwhile at Misbourne Matins we continue to support the local food bank, collect items for  Thames Valley Adventure Playground ,  organise litter picking in the local community and plan for our big quiz, as well as supporting one another through this difficult time. This week we are having a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Zoom.  It could be fun; it could be carnage.  There will be screen shots taken. Tea service before self.

Happy Easter to you all.

Diane
