What a marvellous night for the Changeover dinner. 71 people attended, including quite a number of people who were not Rotarians.
Rochelle had worked tirelessly before the event, and she and her team of Ann Davidson, Shirley Comfort, Phillip Comfort, John Collins and Ian Cameron, did a magnificent job making sure the organisation of the night went smoothly. And we had fun with the table games!
Chris Waugh Induction
Sergeant Simon “roasted” Steve McGregor who, after nearly 32 years as a Rotarian, has decided to hang up his Wahroonga Rotary hat. We lost Steve, but gained the Club’s latest member, Chris Waugh, who was inducted on the night.
Greg, Jim and Ross
Peter Kirkwood presented his annual report, drawing attention to some of the major projects undertaken during his Presidency. He especially recognised Greg Starr, Ross Catterall and Jim Fulton for their support.
A major focus for the evening was my induction into the Presidency by Peter. I spoke about the work of the Club in general and my hope that we can financially support a PhD Research Scholarship. The full text of my speech can be accessed here.
The non Rotarians present were mainly guests/friends of Award recipients. Ian Cameron had identified three people in the community considered worthy of Community Caring Awards. They were Gabrielle Kirkwood (LinC), Diane Abbott (St Edmunds), and Jennifer Southam (Neringah). They were acknowledged for their long and committed voluntary service.

Two Paul Harris Fellows were awarded – one to Joanne Grant, and the other to our own Dave Rigby. Joanne was recognised for her contribution to the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai communities, and in particular to her dedicated support for Hornsby Connect. Dave was acknowledged for his roles with BOBBO and the Wahroonga Village Fair. He is a quiet worker who just gets the job done.

The Martin Forrow award also went to Dave Rigby, and the Ferguson Plate to Richard Pitt.

Another wonderful day at the Claude Cameron Grove on Sunday morning - 300 participants registered and 200 Knox boys also acting as Buddies and accompanying runners. The day began on a chilly morning at 6.45am for your brave colleagues who arrived to set up the BBQ facility and cooking began at 7.30 am with first customers anxious for a warming treat! Mildren Events already had the marque and BBQ's in place for us as we unloaded our food and equipment.
We had a great team in attendance throughout the morning cooking and serving. Ross (and Sue) Catterall, John Julius, Rob Giacometti, Janet Grundy, Chaneg Torres, John Collins, Nermine Toma, Arija McQuillan, Barry Edmundson, David Russell and David Rigby, Helen Clark supervising the Knox boarders also helped out.
A very successful event - some supplies left over but have been despatched to the Dish and Hornsby Connect for their use.
Club Presidents usually serve a one year term of office. Today we meet Ian Spencer, retiring as President of Turramurra Rotary Club where he explains how he became President, the training provided for incoming Presidents, his goals at the start and reflections on their success.
