This past Friday Janet Grundy and I attended a Smoking Ceremony at the Mark Moran Warrawee aged-care facility. The ceremony was conducted by Uncle Brenden Kerin from the Local Metropolitan Aboriginal Lands Council. There’s also an Acknowledgement of Country Plaque that will be in a prominent place for all to see. There was a good contingent from Ku-ring-gai Council present together with residents and staff. The weather was threatening but fortunately the rain held off until after the ceremony.
The Smoking Ceremony event was in relation to this week’s National Reconciliation Week which is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. At last week’s meeting we had the second part of Sergeant Simon Clegg’s interesting talk on AI and our Future. Again, this was very informative, and for some rather confronting. Simon has sent out an email with links to some of the topics he discussed. (see story in Bulletin below)
Last week I received an email from Peter Lorschy notifying of his resignation from Wahroonga Rotary. His resignation was to be effective immediately. I have sent a letter to Peter thanking him for his service to Rotary, with particular mention of fundraising, Bobbo, and the Wahroonga Village Fair.
A reminder that we’re rapidly approaching our Club Changeover, to be held at Magpies Waitara on Wednesday evening 14 June. Bookings are essential for catering purposes. For convenience, there’s a link in the weekly bulletin.

The Science Experience provides students in years 9 and 10 with an insight into the activities, the work, study and career possibilities for people working in science. They do this at tertiary campuses under the guidance of scientists who donate their time and love their work. Representing Rotary on the Science Foundation which coordinates the Experience all over Australia, we meet Marilyn Mercer from the e club of Greater Sydney. Visit The Science Experience
