A significant part of my career was involvement with military aircraft at RAAF Air Bases around Australia. Military aircraft included the Mirage III-O, F-111C and F/A-18 fighters, C-130 Hercules and Caribou transport, and the P3C Orion Anti-submarine Warfare. My involvement was primarily with the radar systems on these aircraft.
During a recent coffee chat, I became aware that a few of our members have been involved with a much earlier WW11 fighter aircraft, the Spitfire.
This led to Steve McGregor’s presentation last week that I found to be interesting and informative. Steve spoke about the training and flying skills of the pilots. Pilots of modern-day fighter aircraft are required to have computing and electronics skills to be able to fly the aircraft. Pilots of the future will be ground-based with electronic gaming skills as new generation aircraft enter into active service.
Here’s a link to a video that discusses the current and future fighter aircraft.
I was planning to be in Moree this week to attend the 40th anniversary of the Moree PCYC, which has recently been upgraded. There was also to be a sod-turning for a building extension. Some of the key people have contracted COVID-19 and the planned event will now take place on Wednesday 4 May.
Having just mentioned COVID-19, a couple of our members are currently in isolation. We wish them a speedy recovery. We need to be mindful of the fact the COVID-19 virus with its variants, will be with us for some and take precautions.
There is much excitement amongst the planning committee as they roll out the plans for the 2022 Novus Foundation Fundraising Dinner extravaganza.
The 2021 event had to be cancelled due to the national pandemic, so expectations for this years return to the event are high.
The impact of the pandemic on our beneficiaries, of course, has been significant so we are delighted to be able to make our mark by again contributing to their fundraising efforts.

In Rotary, a lot is mentioned about having good Public Image (PI) to enhance the Rotary brand to the general public.
PI if you’re unaware of it is the very fine art of managing communications not only between an organisation and the public but also between ourselves. Whether the news is good or bad, people will always have something to say about you, your business perhaps and even your Rotary club. So how can social media improve your Club's public image efforts?
Social media allows you to engage in the conversations taking place about your Club as they happen. Social media also creates the opportunity to change the conversation, increase the awareness of Rotary’s brand, and improve your search engine optimization (SEO). That basically means the more your Club is active on social media the more hits and searches you will come up on in Google, the more potential members will actually find you.
