Last week’s meeting was a Club Assembly to focus on the forthcoming Changeover/Awards Evening, and to brief members on our involvement with the Wahroonga Village Fair. For many years the Wahroonga Village Fair was run by the Wahroonga Chamber of Commerce, then by Joseph Speziale following the demise of the Chamber.
The Fair has not been held for the past three years due to the pandemic. As Greg Starr mentioned, we have signed a MOU with Joseph Speziale; we’ll jointly run the Fair for two years, then take it over completely. Greg Starr, as the RCW Projects Director, will take on responsibility for managing this project. The Fair requires road closure and access to the carpark. Whilst some members would like to hold the event in Wahroonga Park, the Fair has operated successfully for many years in the Village. Thus, we will continue with this proven format for the foreseeable future.
We are continuing for Rotary naming on the upgraded pathway behind the Wahroonga shops. This is a bit complicated as the pathway is State Government property and maintained by Ku-ring-gai Council. Our local State Member Alister Henskens SC MP supports our request and has written to the Minister for Transport. A reply from Transport for NSW is expected by mid July. We are also proceeding with a gardening project in collaboration with Abbotsleigh Girls School.
At the invitation of Alister Henskens, I attended the 2022 Volunteering NSW State Conference together with Michele Bell from the KNC Community Care. This was held at the Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney on Thursday 9 June.
Our guest speaker this Wednesday is Bec Healey from Boxhead Plastics. I’m expecting a member of the Hornsby Chamber of Commerce to join the meeting.
At this years Changeover Dinner evening at Magpies in Waitara a series of awards will be presented to valuable members from the Community and in particular recognising the contribution made to several organisations in the course of their Volunteering or Career pursuits.
I am seeking nominations for this years Vocational Awards that will be presented at our
Changeover Dinner.
Full details of the 2 awards are contained in the material attached- here.
