                           President's Message

We’ve almost reached the end of 2021 and what a challenging but interesting and rewarding year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we’ve learned to adapt to new technologies and embrace different ways to run meetings, hold fundraising events, induct new members, build community relations, etc. Understandably there were some events that we were not able to hold but will be back on the agenda in 2022.

This brings me to the Celebration/Christmas Party that was highly anticipated, well organised, and well attended. This was originally intended to be our Club Changeover then the date was changed and changed again; even the venue was changed. So, it is with immense pleasure to again congratulate Janelle Speight on her year at Club President 2020-21 and for the successful outcomes for the club and for the global community that we serve.

Our first meeting in the New Year will be breakfast at the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC on Wednesday 19th January 2022. A notice will go out before the 19th as we will need to know the number of attendees for catering.

On Saturday 4th February will be the Comedy for a Cause fundraising event so please refer to our club bulletin the Wahroongler for details.

Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas, safe travel and best wishes for 2022.

News
Lifeline Book fair at Barker College
A team of Wahroonga Rotarians joined the "bump in" activities on Thursday and Friday last week and Monday this week The Rosewood center was a great location with easy access. There were a large number of young students and others attending to take care of the book transfer operation - "truck to table" - a job somewhat more demanding than the venue table set up we undertook. However they were pleased with our contribution. Many thanks to members who volunteered - Greg Starr, David Russell, Ian Cameron, Jim Verco, Ross and Susan Catterall.

The Bunnings Market Stalls
A big team of members volunteered to support this initiative - hopeful of being an annual event. Phill Comfort and his helpers gathered together a wonderful array of re purposed gifts and other donated items to display. Their spirits were temporarily dampened - at 5pm a torrential downpour arrived that threatened the event, however all was recovered around opening time and our team went to work. Many thanks to Helen Clarke, Greg Starr, Sheila Flynn, Jim Fulton, Barbara Salisch, Simon Clegg and Lily, Peter Lorschy, Nermine Toma, Ann Davidson and Phill Comfort for the attendance.
Our Rotaractors were also in attendance with a stand. Dave Rigby also secured raffle ticket sales from a number of  folks. A useful stall profit (over $600) was achieved although perhaps the inclement weather turned a few patrons away.

The Annual street stalls
Not to be outdone Mentie and Ann were on site at 8.30am on Saturday morning last to set up their stalls at Wahroonga (Ann) and Turramurra (Mentie). members and partners assisted with the set up and laid out a fantastic array of handcrafted goods and baked goodies. A number of members arrived at 9am to assist with the selling activities through until approx 1pm with $3500 + being collected.
A wonderful effort and a great thanks to the knitters and sewers who crafted some terrific items. Well done to all and thanks to the volunteers - Mentie Knowles, Ann Davidson, Robin and Ava Knight, Peter Lorschy, Peter Smith, Ian Cameron, Helen Clarke, Nermine Toma, Ross Catterall, Ken Broadhead, Rob Ferguson and Dave Rigby (raffle).

A very special thanks to the wonderful team of contributors - Jan Cameron, Margaret Broadhead, Joan Giacometti, Margaret Cameron, Barbara Salisch, Mentie Knowles, Ann Davidson, and Joan Freeman and Rosemary Wade (friends of Mentie)

A Christmas bash!
The long awaited get together face to face for members and guests finally arrived - an opportunity for a recognition of the 2020/2021 Rotary year as the traditional Changeover was cancelled due to pandemic closedowns, and a Christmas celebration. Our thanks to Rochelle, Janelle, Kerri and others for the efforts in ensuring the evening was a success. Old and new friends gathered at Magpies in Waitara for this very happy occasion. Award recognitions and a successful fines session added to the enjoyment of the evening.
