President's Message
Reflections on our "LAST" fully online meeting
Last week’s meeting was a commemoration of two national observances, National Aboriginal & Islanders peoples and the war service of our Australian Armed Forces, although the Sergeant pointed out that November 11th is also the anniversary of Whitlam’s dismissal and Ned Kelly’s hanging.
Ken Broadhead put Remembrance Day front and centre for us with what Greg Starr described as ‘a moving and thought-provoking’ address, followed by the Last Post played on the bagpipes by Knox Cadet, Aaron Erdstein, who also recited the Ode Lest We Forget”.
Ken’s experience in the SES as well as the Royal Australian Artillery, combined with his concern for his 15 grandchildren and their generation of young Australians, caused him to reflect deeply this year on our national experience of a cataclysmic bushfire season followed by a pandemic.

A Christmas Gesture
The Community Committee is celebrating Christmas by doing a bit of culling of cupboards in order to help the Wayside Chapel and we'd love your help. Please bring your items in to the Wednesday meeting at Warrawee Bowling Club or else to your host's place at the Christmas party. If you can't do either of these, then email me and I'll do a personal pickup. Wayside needs particular kinds of clothes to give to people living on the street.

My Adventure with
the girls
Rochelle Wiley
I have been fortunate enough to visit both Fiji and Vietnam with the a group of year 10 girls on an annual visit - over a 10 year period.
Another teacher and I took 14 -16 year 10 students who chose this option as their ‘Applied Learning’ service week. We broke into two groups and built 2 houses in the week, with local labourers, a foreman, the new house owners and lots of laughs!
The labourers did the more dangerous stuff and we hammered (badly), lugged materials, mixed cement, painted etc, and celebrated with a village feast at the end of the build.
Life changing experience for the girls! (ED: and the Teachers)
