                                     President's Message
Thank you, Peter Kirkwood, for entertaining and educating us this week at our joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Calgary North. The link to Peter’s video is below in the newsletter. We will be organising a return visit by the Calgary Club to one of our meetings. We opened this Rotary year with the theme “Rotary Connects the World”. Our incoming Rotary International President, Mark Maloney, wanted us to focus on connections. So, it is most fitting that we ended the year with an international Zoom meeting attended by Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and ??.
Our first Sergeant’s online auction has closed and raised $400. Subsequently, Dee Pugh has donated her winning bids to the Club enabling us to raise more money from the auction; a most generous offer! Some you will remember David Pugh as a past Club member, and they have stayed in touch with our Club over the years through Phil Comfort. We are planning to run more auctions during the year to help our incoming Sergeant’s ‘fines’ income.
Don’t forget the 2020 Rotary Virtual Convention which starts this Saturday evening. There is also an online walking challenge during the conference week - hekahealth.com/rotary20.
This is my last President’s message and so as the two Ronnies would say, “it’s goodnight from me and its goodnight from him.” A big thank you to all of you who have helped and assisted with this year. Despite the challenges, there have been many highlights! See you all at changeover on Wednesday night.

Reflections on Joint #13 Online Meeting
What a wonderful joint (international) meeting
we had on Tuesday morning last week.
56 attendees enjoyed  the mix of cultural experiences -  several visitors from the UK joined the group.
A real Commonwealth feel about the gathering.

Our host's current exchange student
Bálint Blaskó also joined us from Hungary.

A wonderful piano accordionist - Dr Brian Lawson - shared the Australian and Canadian national anthems for our enjoyment.

Peter Kirkwood captured the audience with his Didgeridoo skills and the Canadians provided a local poet - B J Smith - with excerpts from his CD "A Saddle Tramp Soliloquy".

The District Governors from the respective Districts joined in as well. DG Kalma McLellan - D9685 and DG Christine Rendell - D5360

The last 12 months have been a fascinating experience for the Rotary world.

Six months of enthusiasm and high activity - THEN - the shock and awe of a world pandemic was upon us with a quick re-adjustment to a strange world of online meetings and dwindling finances.

Congratulations to Doug Reid and his Board and team members who warmed to the creativity required to keep the Club membership engaged and sharing in a spirit of camaraderie.

An unforgettable experience

We welcome Janelle Speight to the leadership role with her team, to develop the Rotary year with a new RI theme

"Rotary Opens Opportunities"

and with enthusiasm to carry on the current online meeting model with the benefit of plans in play to continue the creative talents of our members, with some light ahead as the effects of the pandemic wane in severity.

Janelle you take over the role with our best wishes for a successful year in developing the opportunities that opening new doors may bring.

The Changeover meeting will be online and several breakout groups will be created for members to socialise before the formal proceedings begin.

Wednesday 24th June at 6.15pm - Zoom details to follow under separate cover.

Rotary’s Centenary is a time of celebration!  It is a time to reflect on our past, and take pride in all that has been achieved.  It is a time we play our part in the history of Rotary.

We wanted to take the opportunity of sharing with you the video that our Ambassadors have provided and you are welcome to share this with your Districts and Clubs. In fact we would encourage you to do so.

A message from Lyn Webb via Rotarian Terry Hodge

Garry Webb had an extensive Stamp Collection and Lyn Webb is trying to find a new home for the collection. The collection is quite a large one involving several boxes. If anyone is interested in such a collection could they please contact Terry Hodge (terryhodge59@aapt.net.au).

Alternatively the collection may have some valuable stamps - so a reliable dealer who may be able to assist would also be very helpful – if you know of such a person please give the details to Terry.
