                                     President's Message
Last Wednesday’s meeting was delightful with four of our members sharing their stories. Stories from afar and connected to home in Australia. We are very lucky to have you as part of our Club. Thank you, Cheneg, Sharada, Nermine, Anshu and also thank you to Jo Karaolis for running a very enjoyable and connected interview session. We are very proud to have members from all walks of life.

Margaret Cameron, whom many of you know, has been busily knitting beanies for all different sizes and has kindly donated them to our Club for sale. Please get in contact with Christine Biddle to purchase any. Christine will have lots more items coming up for sale in the Rotary stalls, stay tuned for more … and thank you to Margaret and Christine.

SOLD OUT!  Congratulations to Jo-Ann Moffat and the Community team for selling all tickets for both sessions to the Sisters of Freedom Book launch to be held on 1st May. When we are setting up these events now there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes with the automation of payments, tickets and banking. Thanks to guidance and help from Ian Cameron this has been a smooth process. If you have a project, please use our Rotary Club links and automation as it is there for these purposes to make life easier for you.

Community’s other event to raise funds for the Women’s Shelter is the Wine Tasting and Dinner being held at BayTree Retirement Resort, Greenwich on Wednesday 9th June. If you don’t have a table or you are wanting to go on your own, please let Peter Smith know and he would be happy to place you with other Club members that are attending. Remember, this evening replaces our morning meeting. If you can make it, we would love to see you there.

Your Club Board had a very productive meeting on Tuesday evening 13th April. We have two more meetings before the end of my Rotary year.

Some of you will be volunteering for the Anzac Service to be run in Wahroonga Park on Sunday 25 April from 7.00 am to 8.30 am and those details will be coming from Allen Hyde. Peter Kirkwood will be there on the day so please keep in contact with Peter if you are unsure of anything.

Thank you, Peter Kirkwood for filling in for me at our ANZAC breakfast meeting and at the Anzac Service, whilst I am away, and also to Ken Broadhead for organising our ANZAC breakfast meeting speaker, PP David Maclean.

Be safe, stay well and I’ll see you at the Vocational Awards presentations at our breakfast  meeting on Wednesday 28 April.

Reflections on our Hybrid meeting #17
Our meeting last week was full of good humour and entertainment and President Janelle was very proud to induct the Club's first husband and wife partnership (noted by courtesy Rob Ferguson).

Simran Talwar and Sabarish Chirakkal were introduced to the meeting by Mentie Knowles and were enthusiastically welcomed by the members as their induction to the Club was completed.

Both new members have shown their willingness to participate in Club activities over the last month or two - attending functions and Sabarish supporting the meeting technology required to embrace the Zoom attendees in recent weeks.

Congratulations to both inductees. President Janelle acknowledged Simran's lengthy connection with Rotary as her father is a member of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mulund Valley and the immediate past District Governor of District 3141 (India).

----------------------

Our special guest speakers for the meeting were Xavier Knight and James Sung, young Knox representatives introduced by PP Sue Owen as the Clubs' chosen candidates who attended the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in January 2021.

PP Sue chose to interview the students with pre-prepared questions which sought to explore their reactions to the unusual online forum style due to Covid-19, and encouraged them to enunciate the value they received from the experience and any influence it may have had on the life and choice of career options. More of the boys impressions from the Forum in "Read More" below

The students were very articulate and gracious in their praise of the opportunity to attend the Forum. I am sure family members who attended the meeting in support of the boys were extremely proud.

Thank you to Helen Clarke for her participation in the choice of candidates.

Our next Hybrid meeting #18
Our meeting this week will have a social theme and as such provide an opportunity for interviewer extraordinaire Jo Karaolis to present Club members' stories using her well crafted interview style. This meeting should be most entertaining with these interviews being the highlight.
We look forward to hearing from Jo and four of our newer members, Sharada, Anshu, Nermine and Chaneg.

From our UK Correspondents #6
Hello fellow Rotarians, and Happy Easter!
The post box in the village of Chalfont St Peter has been decorated rather nicely for Easter. Sadly we are still unable to go to church with our community but can attend for individual prayer.
We had one of the hottest March days for 53 years with a temperature of 24.5C on Tuesday 30th. On Good Friday,  April 2nd, l went to Kew Gardens with family as we can meet outside now in groups of up to 6 from 2 households. So exciting. It was a lovely day and very warm.
Then today, Tuesday after Easter, we have a chill Arctic wind with snow flurries! What on earth is happening to our weather.

We are very keen to have our haircuts next week when hairdressers and non essential shops open up. The great debate currently is whether there should be “vaccination passports." 31.5 million Brits have had 1 dose of vaccine and 5.4 million of these have had a second. Unfortunately, we see a lot of hassle and possible counterfeiting if these passports are rolled out. Watch this space!
This weekend saw the arrival of our first grandchild at a local hospital. It has been a difficult time for pregnant mums as the midwife appointments have been few and far between. They have not been able to meet up as groups of antenatal parents unless on Zoom. Their partners have not always been allowed in for the scans etc. At delivery they are supposed to be there for the last 1/2 hour - we all know how easy that is to plan.
