President's Message
Traditionally District Governors make at least one official visit to each Rotary club in their respective District. This past week we had the pleasure of our 2022-2023 District Governor Mina Howard visit with us. Due to the Covid situation this was again a Zoom meeting as it has been for the past two years with our official DG visits. Mina spoke about briefly about her background and her time in Rotary. For the benefit of all members, please find attached Mina’s biography that I’ve lifted from the 2022-2023 District Directory.
Speaking of the 2022-2023 District Directory, I have yet to receive a hard copy. However, the directory is available online which can be downloaded from this website.
We are populating the club calendar and this is an opportunity for all members to recommend interesting speakers. A more formal announcement is included in this week’s Wahroongler.
The Bobbo Cycle Classic event that was scheduled to be held earlier this year (cancelled due to weather) will now be held on Sunday 18th September. Dave Rigby and Peter Lorschy are the RCW representatives on the Bobbo Executive Committee, and you’ll hear from Dave and Peter shortly. This is a major multi-club event and we need as many members as possible to assist on the day.
REMINDER: This week’s Wednesday breakfast meeting, 3rd August, is a vocational visit to the new Granny Flat Solutions showroom Pacific Highway Waitara. Members need to register via the Wahroonga Rotary Event Invitation that was sent out a few days ago. (please ensure you are booked in)
Details of the visit (time, location, etc) are shown in the Event Invitation. Wally Gebrael who is one of the founding directors was recently interviewed and here’s a link to the video recording.
The following week, Wednesday 10th August, we’ll be back at the Warrawee Club.

Bobbin Head Classic - A Reminder
A reminder that the postponed Bobbin Head Cycle Classic (Bobbo) is coming up on Sunday 18 September. This is one of our major events where, in conjunction with there other Rotary clubs, we raise over $200,000 each year.  The main beneficiaries being Lifeline and KYDS as well as over $20,000 distributed to our own chosen charities, the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter and Hornsby Connect.
Wahroonga Rotary is responsible for managing the start and finish of the ride and the festival atmosphere at the Bobbo Village on Karuah Oval as well as providing road marshals for the arriving riders and Team A, which is the first leg of the ride.
We’ll soon be asking you to confirm your commitment to volunteering on the day as well as asking for additional volunteers to help out with setting up at Karuah Oval on the Saturday and marshalling and pack-up on the Sunday.

Rotary Matters

Homeless people are at a significantly higher risk of suffering poor health outcomes, including higher rates of morbidity and mortality. Streetside medics, a mobile medical service run by volunteer doctors, nurses and supporters takes a medical clinic to the street offering free health advice and treatment to the growing number of homeless in our society.
