Globally, falls by people aged 65 and over are a daily tragedy…but they don’t get significant attention. Every year in Australia, 1 in 3 people aged 65 and over have a fall one or more times a year… and 400 are admitted to hospital due to a fall, every day.
Falls by older Australians is the single biggest injury cost to the entire national health system.
They are biggest reason for unplanned admission into aged care. The size, and consequences, of falls is as big as several health issues combined. A fall can be terrible for an older person, with a domino effect on family and the community. But the research is clear, falls can be prevented.
This breakfast presentation will inspire practical action on what you and your loved ones can do and how you can engage in this important, public health cause.
