Doing Good in the World.

As Rotarians, we contribute our skills, expertise and financial support to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies and protect the environment, at home and internationally.

Rotary’s Global Grants programme supports these efforts in communities worldwide.

Over the years Wahroonga Rotary has been involved in a number of Global Grants and each of them began with a cell of interested Rotarians within Wahroonga Club saying to one another, “Gee, wouldn’t it be a great idea to join up with Rotarians in ‘this geographical area of need’ “and “do the ‘identified good’ ” there?”

. . . and that’s how a Global Grant begins!!!

The rest is simple. Whether the project idea is potentially as basic in value as US$30,000; or as big as US$400,000, with Rotarians working together across international borders.

As with any worthwhile pursuit there is always work to be done and on this occasion, it will be done by the Global Grant Committee, comprised of Rotarians from each of the countries involved. The work commences by reducing the concept to writing. A Global Grant template and other Rotary Foundation tools, created for the purpose, make the filing, review and approval processes straightforward.

In recent years, of fifty-nine completed grants sponsored by District 9685 clubs, forty percent ($1,500,000) of a total Global Grant value of $3,750,000 has been contributed, through the matching process, by the Rotary Foundation World Fund in support of those Grant projects.

Matching by The Rotary Foundation with funds from the World Fund is a strong incentive for clubs to think beyond the club to do major good in the world at home and abroad.

For example, our District 9685 will contribute $8,000 towards an approved Global Grant and that sum together with supporting funds from Districts from across the nation, and the world, will be matched 80% by the Rotary Foundation.

So with efforts to seek out partners we can turn a modest Club contribution into something worthwhile.
An example to consider
Local Club contribution$6,000
District Contribution$8,000
Overseas Clubs (2) contribution$10,000
Sub Total$24,000
Rotary Foundation 80%$19,200
Total Funds to be distributed
to "Do Good in the World"
$43,200
