A trip to the bush ….

 

Last meeting: We had the pleasure of the company of 5 members and 3 partners of the Rotary Club of Wahroonga present at our meeting. They had travelled up the day before with the purpose of looking first hand at drought conditions in our area and having raised some funds for drought relief were looking to partner with a Rotary Club in a drought affected area. They were impressed with our Neighbours in Need programme and as one of their members, John Cameron and his wife Margaret, were former residents of Narrabri we seemed a logical choice to visit and partner with. They were given a tour of the district last Thursday by Ralph Schulze with Pat and Phil Norrie. After a visit to Sawn Rocks we travelled up some of the back country east of Edgeroi, along the Couradda and Byalla roads to the highway then out the Clump Road to the Bald Hill Road. We came down the Bald Hill Road, in through the back of Auscott, past the gin and workshop, and out to Wee Waa for lunch at the bakery. We then travelled back to Narrabri via the Australia Telescope and met with Ian Dunnet from the Courier. They were able to see all the country where at this time of the year, paddocks that would normally be growing wheat, durum, chickpeas and grazing crops were all bare or any rare crops were struggling under our present conditions. They all attended our meeting and we were addressed by their President, Stuart Armstrong. Stuart outlined their fundraising activities in relation to the drought and a great evening of Rotary fellowship ensued...……………...
