Bush Wilderness Rescue Squad
Oct 12, 2016
Paul Campbell-Allen
Paul Campbell-Allen is the Captain of Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad, a 150 strong volunteer squad specialising in remote area search and rescue. Coming from a lifelong background in outdoor recreation – backcountry skiing, canyonning and multi-day bushwalking, Paul became involved in search and rescue over 16 years ago. Paul has worked as a Team Leader and Search Manager for many years in close association with the Police Rescue Squad and has been involved in some of the longest searches in NSW. His own specialisation is in Vertical Rescue and he works as an instructor around the state training personnel in cliff and canyon rescue techniques.
Paul’s topic is ‘LOST AND FOUND – why people get lost and how they may be found’ This draws on documented searches involving the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad in some of the most rugged and inaccessible remote areas of the state, and recent research into the behaviour of lost persons ranging from young children to elderly dementia sufferers. |

PCYC Programmes
Mar 01, 2017
Paul joined NSW Police in 1999 and was first stationed at Brisbane Water Local Area Command (Gosford region). I worked there until 2007 then transferred to Eastwood Local Area Command until 2015. Over this time I have worked in general duties policing for 10 years and pro-active policing units for 5 years investigating break and enter/property and drug offences.I joined Youth Command in the role as Youth Case Manager at Hornsby Kuring-Gai PCYC in January 2015. My operational policing experience has given me a solid foundation to understand the patterns of behaviour and the needs of our youth, to explore the background behind the actual offence itself in developing strategies to combat crime from a different angle. |
